The staff at the Westside Animal Hospital is committed to bringing you best in quality medical care for your pets, while working with you to achieve that goal. We acknowledge that all pets are unique in their own way and so we tailor our treatments to be appropriate to your pet’s individual lifestyle, breed and age.
We know that all animals, during different stages of their life, need different types of care. Whether they are adolescents, adults, or seniors we make sure to take this into account while treating your animal. Throughout your pet’s lives you may have questions regarding their nutrition, behavior or general medical needs and we are here to help you every step of the way.
General Physical Check-ups and Vaccinations
We pride ourselves in our high quality of care and that is why we always offer general wellness examinations and vaccinations for your pet. We know that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure and in that respect we have many veterinary services available to keep your pets healthy and strong. Our resident veterinarian takes a close look at the animal, examining everything from head-to-tail and we offer complete blood tests in order to obtain a complete health-profile of your pet.
We recommend that you have your pet examined once or twice a year for a general check-up. For pets, who age a lot quicker than humans, many things can happen in just a 12 month span. It’s important to remember that your pet’s life span is shorter than yours so it’s imperative that you get them checked regularly.
In the ever changing world of veterinary medicine, many new treatments and preventative measures are being developed to help combat everyday pet diseases. At Westside we have available a range of vaccinations that we employ to keep at bay the most common diseases that occur and we tailor our vaccination protocol to you and your pet’s lifestyle. The staff here can also discuss any questions you may have.
You can call up one of our staff and if an examination is recommended we can schedule an appointment for you right there and then, right over the phone.
Pharmacy
Our in-house pharmacy gives you the benefit of starting your pet’s medical treatment immediately. The Westside Animal Hospital stocks a broad range of pharmaceutical products to help your pet recover quickly from surgery or illness. After your examination, you can be given your pet’s medication quickly and painlessly.
The staff at Westside can advise you on the correct administration and daily recommended doses of the medications given and help you be on your way. Refills of prescriptions can be filled just by calling us over the phone and can usually be available for pick-up that same day.
Nutrition and Behavior Counseling
We all know that “you are what you eat”. The same applies to your dog or cat. At the Westside Animal Hospital we offer a wide range of nutritional options, including specific prescription diets as well as nutritional supplements that can aid in proper growth, recovery from illness or surgery. From the first visit of your dog or cat, we will talk to you about the proper nutrition for your animal, what options are available for you and what the proper recommended frequency and amount of food should be given.
If obesity is a problem in your pet, as it is a very common problem in animals, we also go over some measures on how you can reduce the weight of your pet gradually and slowly and what types of food your pet should be eating. This can result in a loss of weight, higher activity level and increase in general well-being for your dog or cat. We promote healthier lifestyles for your animal, and if you have any questions regarding nutrition please call us and let us know.
Behavior is also another common topic that is brought up in the examination room. When possible, the staff at Westside will address these problems early on in the pet’s life, where there is a greater chance to treat or even completely prevent this problem. If your dog or cat is having trouble urinating or defecating in the right area, is not getting along with other pets and/or people, has separation anxiety or is even feeling depressed we can help you. Just ask us today how we can help you solve your pet’s behavioral problems.
Microchipping
Throughout the year, millions of pets are separated from their owners and many times they never return. Putting a microchip into your pet can help you avoid this tragedy. At Westside, we offer microchipping for the ID of your pet, in the unfortunate case that your pet is lost. The microchips we use are recognized both domestically (within the USA) and also internationally.
Implanting a microchip in your pet is a great way to avoid permanently losing your animal and is simple and easy. The microchip that is implanted is a small device that is implanted directly between the shoulder blades of the animal which stays there for life. Just like a routine vaccination the process is painless and simple.
The chip when scanned with an appropriate and authorized microchip scanner will display a unique number. This number is bound to information regarding the pet and its owner and are logged in a national registry. If ever your pet is lost and is found by another clinic or animal shelter, they can scan the animal to see if they have been microchipped. If they are, they can track down the ID number in the registry and contact the owner, eventually reuniting the owner with the lost pet.
